Amorim Investimentos e Participações (AIP) – part of Grupo Amorim, has launched a new business area, to be named Amorim Global Investors (AGI), to manage private equity investments.
AGI is a private equity fund manager that will seek to explore investment opportunities in companies with proven track record and quality management teams that are seen as leaders in their industry sector. The investment process will include direct investments in established companies with the intention to divest after a certain period.
At the initial investment stage, AGI will invest €100 mln of committed resources, over an investment period of 3-5 years, in sectors with established potential, robust growth businesses, sustainable and anti-cyclical cash flows.
AGI is able to mobilize additional capital if an exceptional opportunity is identified. AIP currently holds a comprehensive investment portfolio under which Américo Amorim, Joaquim Amorim and António Amorim operate a number of businesses that include Corticeira Amorim, the world´s leading cork producer, AGI and other activities.
Unveiling the fund’s investment strategy and targets, Mr. Américo Amorim, president of Grupo Amorim, said “the creation of AGI illustrates our commitment and trust in the economy in the long term.

Pedro Pinto Coelho possesses over 18 years of banking experience acquired at different locations including London, Lisbon and São Paulo. In his last assignment, Pedro served as Board Member of Banif Investment Bank and had also been previously responsible for the investment banking divisions of Citigroup and Salomon, Banco Espírito Santo Investment and Banco Finantia, all in Portugal.
Hugo Mendes Domingos, Investment Director, joins AGI from HSBC in London, where he was responsible for M&A execution for transactions spanning from Europe to the Middle East. Hugo has over 9 years of investment experience gained at Morgan Stanley, ING, CIBC and HSBC.
Leonardo Pimenta de Carvalho, Investment Manager, joins AGI from London, where he performed roles at the structured finance, project finance and syndicated loans areas of ABN AMRO Bank. Leonardo has over 6 years banking experience and previously held positions at Banif Investment Bank in Portugal and Brazil and Standard Bank in the United States.
